THE REFINERY
Pushing the frontiers of visual effects in South Africa, and placed on par with the best VFX and post-production houses around the globe, The Refinery is at the cutting edge of creative and technological expertise. However demanding a brief`s requirements - dinosaurs, lava lately surfing , or a completely virtual world The Refinery applies the highest levels of creative thought and delivery, even before shooting has begun. Designed to get it right the first time, that collaboration guarantees a two-way flow where post-production needs are delivered, and the director gets what he has visualized. In some cases, this requires supplying complete technically perfect 3D previsualizations of a commercial or feature scene prior to shooting. This approach has brought world famous directors to South Africa specifically to post at The Refinery. Tarsem (The Cell) has just completed two commercials Mountain Dew (remotely approved by Pepsi in New York) and DeBeers for Dubai and is in the final stages of editing (also at The Refinery using an editor from LA) his very latest film, the fall, shot and processed entirely in South Africa. Parthenon`s Lawrence Barnet brought the History Channel`s Quest for Dragons to the Refinery based on the absolute confidence that it could deliver feature-quality hyper-realistic dinosaurs and dragons to his exact scientific specifications. Istanbulshot Fiat commercial, was posted with The Refinery team. Indeed, the visual expertise at The Refinery is partly responsible for the host of global awards and accolades currently being rained on South African-directed commercials.
